Painting in the Pandemic

During the pandemic I exchanged postcards, with friends, of great artworks. It was a way of keeping in touch with the outside world while our borders were closed. I decided to pair them with objects from around my home and create still lifes, where the two would talk to one another.

‘Coffee with Clarice’ was one I found particularly moving to work on. Beckett is my favourite Australian artist and I would often look through books of her paintings, while having my morning coffee, alone. Post-Covid the painting still conjures up those feelings of comfort in isolation. I’m excited to say that ‘Coffee with Clarice’ has been selected as a finalist for the Mosman Prize 2022.
